I want to sell stuff online on my own website by dropshipping. From what i understand, dropshipping works like this: you get a contract from a company, and when you sell something of theirs on your site they will send it to the person and give you like 10% of the profit or whatever amount you agreed on.
So, is this how it works? If so, how would i get a contract or whatever it is i need from the company and how do i find companies that dropship? How would i start this? Im completely lost.
Also, what are some sites that do this, so i can see how they work… i think amazon dropships, who else? Would any company even bother making a deal with some guy running a website from home?

I want to trade as a sole trader and sell pet collars.
I have found a good supplier in China, and as I don’t have much money to invest, I want to use their dropshipping service.
I would trade via a website, using a paypal account for collecting the money.
Most of the products I would dropship from this company are valued at less than £18, so wouldn’t get charged import tax. I would make it clear to my customers that they have to pay the import taxes, if applicable.
So basically, the customer would pay me, I would pay the manufacturer, who would then ship the item directly to my customer.
Someone I was talking to the other day doesn’t think this is legal though? I don’t see how it isn’t – I would declare all my earnings and pay income tax & NICs – can someone shed some light on this? As I wouldn’t be the importer (my customer would be) would it be ok to submit self assesment accounts with the price i pay the supplier ignoring VAT, and would I ever need to register for VAT even if I reached the threshold of £60k of whatever it is right now as I would be operating as a broker/agent.
